Sunday roast

What it is

A Sunday roast, also called Sunday lunch or roast dinner, is a British dish traditionally eaten on Sunday. It consists of roast meat, roast or mashed potatoes and accompaniments such as Yorkshire pudding, gravy and stuffing, with a range of vegetables.¹

Yorkshire pudding is a baked pudding made from a batter of eggs, flour and milk or water, served as part of the roast or as a dish in its own right.²

Pubs that specialize in food often serve meals in a separate eating area, and food service often stops well before the pub closes.³ Booking ahead on a Sunday is sensible: ask the pub.

Check before you go. We list a place when its own website, fetched on Oct 25, 2026, mentions a Sunday roast or Sunday lunch. That does not mean it serves one every week, and we do not know the price or the vegetarian options. Check the menu and booking page.
