Photos are from Wikimedia Commons and used under the licences shown: public domain, CC0, Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY), Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) or the UK Open Government Licence. We do not use photos with non-commercial or no-derivatives terms. Follow “Source” for the original file page.

Where Commons records no author name, we credit the archive that supplied the file or the person who uploaded it (marked “Commons uploader”). Our social-media preview images are crops of these photos with the page title added; they carry the same licence as the photo they were cut from.

The full list is split by where each photo is used, so every page stays quick to load. Each page lists the photographer, licence and Commons source of every photo in that part of the site; a photo used in several places appears on each relevant page.
