Britlens practical guide
Book ahead in Britain: what needs a ticket, a slot or a ballot
Wimbledon, the Edinburgh Fringe, Stonehenge, the Tower of London and more. Each entry links to the official page and says when it was last checked. We give opening dates for tickets only where the official page does.
Facts last checked 25 Oct 2026. Britlens is independent: see our editorial policy.
Dates, prices and ticket rules change. Treat this page as a prompt to check the official site, not as a booking guide. “Checked” means we read that page on the date shown on each entry (25 Oct 2026 unless stated). Where a site blocked automated reading we say so on the entry.

How we chose and checked
We included sights and events where an official page tells visitors to book, hold a time slot, enter a ballot or expect a sell-out. We left out anything we could not tie to such a page. The list is a sample, not a complete directory, and the absence of a place does not mean it needs no booking. Venue-specific ticket advice for theatre is in our theatre guide; free entry with a booked slot is covered in free things; costs are in money in Britain.
