Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to plan a trip with Britlens. This statement says honestly how far we have got.

Draft: pending legal review. This page is a plain-English draft and has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor. It is not legal advice.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not had an independent accessibility audit and we have not tested with screen readers, so we do not claim that the site conforms to WCAG. We believe it partly meets level AA.

What we have tested

  • Automated checks: on 18 October 2026 we ran the axe-core checker (WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules, plus best practice) on 41 types of page at three screen widths (1,280, 768 and 375 pixels). It found 268 problems at desktop width; we fixed them and the re-run found none at any of the three widths.
  • Ongoing automated checks: our test suite runs the same checker on 20 key pages (in English, with the French and Chinese home pages and open menus) on desktop and phone sizes, and checks that buttons and links on about 25 page types are large enough to tap on a phone.
  • Keyboard: spot checks only, not a full keyboard test of every page.
  • Automated tools find only some kinds of problem, so passing them does not mean a page is fully accessible.

What we have done

  • A "skip to content" link, visible focus outlines, and headings and landmarks in a logical order.
  • Text colours that meet the WCAG contrast ratio on plain backgrounds.
  • Names for links, buttons and menus that make sense out of context, and menus that work with the keyboard and close with Escape.
  • Layouts that work on screens down to 375 pixels wide without sideways scrolling, and respect for your device's reduced-motion setting. The home page video has a pause button.

Known problems

  • Not tested with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver or TalkBack. There may be problems we do not know about.
  • The interactive map is hard to use with a keyboard or screen reader: it has hundreds of markers and no list view. The same places are listed as text on the area and category pages of the guide.
  • Text over photographs (for example page headers) has not been checked for contrast, because automated tools cannot measure it.
  • Image descriptions: photos loaded from Wikimedia Commons and from venues' own websites use descriptions from our data; we have not reviewed their quality.
  • The step-free checkbox in the journey planner is small (its label can be clicked instead).
  • The language menu was changed after our review and its keyboard behaviour has not been re-checked.
  • Pages added after 18 October 2026, including most of the regional guides, have not had the full review. Some are covered by the automated checks in our test suite.
  • Other languages: the French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Chinese versions have been checked less than English. This statement and our other legal pages are in English only.
  • Embedded and linked services (for example OpenStreetMap maps and Transport for London data) are outside our control.

Access information in the guide

Step-free, wheelchair and similar details about venues and stations come from the venues, OpenStreetMap contributors and transport operators. They can be wrong or out of date. Please confirm with the venue or operator before you travel, for example with Transport for London's step-free guide.

Report a problem or ask for another format

Email [contact email] with the page address and what went wrong, or if you need information from the site in a different format. We aim to reply within 5 working days. If a place's access information is wrong, you can also use the "Report a problem" link on that place.

If you are not satisfied

If you are not happy with our response, in England, Scotland and Wales you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). In Northern Ireland, contact the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.
