Quieter alternatives

Quieter alternatives

A well-known sight, then a smaller place nearby with the distance between them. We use published visitor figures where they exist and say so where they do not.

Facts last checked Oct 25, 2026. Britlens is independent: see our editorial policy.

What "quieter" means here. Where we cite visitor figures, the well-known sight's count is shown and the alternative is a smaller venue we have no figure for. We cannot promise it will be quiet on the day: weekends, school vacations and events change everything. Distances are straight lines from our place data, not walking routes, and the walking time assumes 3.1 miles (5 km)/h.

Checked against visitor figures

Visitor figures are Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) member counts as listed on Wikipedia, with the year shown.1
