Short answer: Go to the bar, order and pay there, and take your drinks to a table. Table service is usually only for meals.

Do you order at the bar in a British pub?

Yes. Most pubs serve drinks at the bar, and you pay when you get them. Pubs that serve food may offer table service, usually only if you are eating a meal, and some chains let you order on a phone.[1]

How do I get served?

Eye contact or a discreetly raised hand is enough. Do not tap money on the bar or shout.[1]

What is a round?

In a group, people take turns to buy drinks for everyone, or put money into a shared kitty. It is quicker for the bar staff than separate orders.[1]

Can I pay by card in a pub?

Most pubs take contactless cards, especially if they serve food, but a few are still cash only.[1]
