Free things to do in Wales

6 places in Wales whose own website says entry is free. Checked Nov 1, 2026.

Facts last checked Oct 25, 2026. Britlens is independent: see our editorial policy.

Places listed on this page.

Free means general admission. Special exhibitions and events can be ticketed, some places ask you to book a free slot, and some suggest a donation. Check the venue before you go.

Every entry below is a art gallery, museum, arts centre and open-air museum in our Wales guide whose own website said, when we read it, that entry is free. We quote what the page said, link the page, and do not give opening hours, because they change. 2 places on this list ask you to book a free ticket first: National Museum Cardiff (Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Caerdydd), National Waterfront Museum (Amgueddfa Genedlaethol y Glannau). If a venue's page changes, we remove it at the next check.

Free self-guided walks

Following a walk costs nothing, though places you pass may charge. Each walk page has a map, the route, stops and a GPX file.

Getting around Wales for less

Local transport: Cardiff Bus and Transport for Wales. Cardiff Bus lists "Tap On, Tap Off" for single and day tickets, cash and contactless on the bus, mobile tickets in its app, a Family Travel ticket for up to five people (at least one child and no more than two adults), a Network Rider ticket for several operators in south-east Wales, and PlusBus for rail plus bus.

Fares and tickets: Cardiff Bus fares and tickets (opens in new tab), Traveline Cymru (opens in new tab), Transport for Wales: plan a journey (opens in new tab). Our getting around guide compares every destination.
