Test cricket, the university, an Edwardian cinema and a Cistercian abbey

North-west of the centre, Woodhouse Lane climbs past the University of Leeds and its Parkinson Building to Woodhouse Moor, Hyde Park and Headingley. Headingley Stadium, home of Yorkshire cricket and the Leeds Rhinos, sits behind the shops and pubs of Otley Road and North Lane.

Further out, in the Aire valley, the ruins of Kirkstall Abbey stand in a public park with Abbey House Museum across the road. Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, between the canal and the river, is a short trip back towards the centre.

Avant de partir

1

Check the fixtures

On cricket and rugby match days Headingley is busy and the Yorkshire Cricket Museum opens. Check the Yorkshire County Cricket Club fixtures before you plan a quiet visit.

2

Free university galleries

The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery and the Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery are free, with no need to book. The M&S Company Archive is also free.

3

Combine the abbey and the museum

Abbey House Museum is in the abbey's former gatehouse, close to the ruins. Both sell general admission tickets on site.

4

Book the Picture House

Hyde Park Picture House seats about 275, so book screenings ahead on its website.
