Holidays and busy periods
Bank holidays (public holidays) for England come from GOV.UK, listed for the next two years in each month above. Many Britons travel on bank holiday weekends, so book transport and rooms early.
School vacations are set by each local council, so we do not list dates here. Check School term and holiday dates (GOV.UK).
From our the Peak District guide
Opening seasons vary by attraction in the Peak District, and summer-only services such as the Peak Sightseer bus do not run all year. Check each venue's own site before you go.
- Spring (March to May): The Heights of Abraham's website gives an open season starting in late March, and cable-car and cavern visits can be planned from then.
- Summer (June to August): The Peak Sightseer open-top bus runs in the summer season, linking Castleton, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Hathersage and the Monsal Trail.
- Fall (September to November): Some seasonal attractions close for the winter in early November, for example the Masson Mills visitor center, so check before you travel.
- Winter (December to February): Haddon Hall holds a Christmas artisan market each year, and many pubs, hotels and walking routes stay open; check venue sites for winter hours.
We do not publish crowd or price seasonality: none of the sources used for this page states it.
