City Centre and the Winter Garden: The Peace Gardens and Millennium Square in Sheffield city centre

A mini guide to

City Centre and the Winter Garden

A glasshouse, free galleries, the Crucible and two cathedrals within a short walk

Welcome to the area

A glasshouse, free galleries, the Crucible and two cathedrals within a short walk

Sheffield's centre climbs from the railway station and Sheaf Square up to the Winter Garden, a large temperate glasshouse, and the Millennium Gallery beside it. The Peace Gardens and their fountains face the Grade I listed Town Hall, and Tudor Square, home to the Crucible and the Lyceum, is a few steps away.

Further up, Barker's Pool has the City Hall and the war memorial. To the north, Church Street has the Anglican cathedral and Cutlers' Hall, with the Catholic cathedral just off Fargate and the Georgian Paradise Square behind. Park Hill, the listed housing estate, stands on the hill above the station.
