The old walled town, the cathedral quarter, the market and the Cultural Quarter
1 / 8Bienvenue dans le quartier
Leicester's historic core lies inside the ring road. Around the cathedral are the King Richard III Visitor Centre, built over the Greyfriars site where the king was found, and the timber-framed Guildhall of about 1390. A few minutes west are the Roman Jewry Wall and its museum, then the castle motte, the Great Hall, St Mary de Castro and Newarke Houses.
East of the cathedral, the market and the Haymarket Memorial Clock Tower mark the shopping centre, and Curve theatre stands in the Cultural Quarter. New Walk leads south-east to the Museum & Art Gallery and Victoria Park. Abbey Park, on the River Soar, Abbey Pumping Station and the National Space Centre lie to the north.

Both are north of the city centre, near each other; take a bus rather than walk out from the centre.
Diwali, the Caribbean Carnival and the Comedy Festival bring big crowds; check Visit Leicester for dates before booking.
