The Royal Pavilion, the Dome and the independent streets between the station and the Old Steine

North Laine is the quarter of narrow streets between Brighton station and the Royal Pavilion. It is a conservation area of independent shops, cafés, pubs and small theatres, and was saved from plans for a flyover in the 1970s.

At its southern edge, the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery and the Brighton Dome form the Royal Pavilion estate. Further north, St Peter's Church, The Level and Preston Park lead towards the Duke of York's cinema and Preston Manor.

Bons plans d'initiés

Avant de partir

1

Start at the station

North Laine begins just south-east of Brighton station, so it is a natural first stop if you arrive by train.

2

Combine the Pavilion estate

The Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery and the Brighton Dome share one estate; the Dome is linked to the Pavilion by a tunnel.

3

Look for guided tours

Brighton & Hove Museums runs guided tours of the Royal Pavilion, including basement and tunnel tours in season. Check its website for dates.

4

Preston Manor is seasonal

Preston Manor opens for a season each year rather than all year round. Check the Brighton & Hove Museums website before you go.
