Weston Park Museum, the Botanical Gardens and a chain of parks along the Porter Brook

West of the centre, the University of Sheffield's red-brick Firth Court stands on Western Bank beside Weston Park, where Weston Park Museum, opened in 1875, is the city's largest museum. Crookes Valley Park is next door, and Devonshire Green, the only large green space in the city centre, is on the way back into town.

To the south-west, off Ecclesall Road, the Botanical Gardens hold about 5,000 plant species in 19 acres, not far from the Victorian General Cemetery. The Porter Valley parks start at Endcliffe Park, with the Mi Amigo memorial, and lead on through Bingham Park to Shepherd Wheel, a water-powered grinding workshop.
