A mini guide to
Micklegate Bar, the pubs of Micklegate and the shops of Bishopthorpe Road
1 / 6Welcome to the area
Micklegate runs from Micklegate Bar, the gateway in the south-western walls, down to Ouse Bridge. It is lined with pubs, bars and restaurants, and the Bar Convent, Holy Trinity Church and the Bishophill streets lie just off it.
South of the centre, Bishopthorpe Road, known locally as Bishy Road, has a run of cafés, pubs and shops. Rowntree Park lies beside the River Ouse, with the Knavesmire and York Racecourse further south-west.

The Bar Convent's website describes its museum, café, chapel and guest house. Check it for visiting arrangements.
York Racecourse is on the Knavesmire. Check its fixtures page if you want to visit or avoid a race meeting.
