Vegetarian, vegan, halal and kosher

We only use the dietary flags already in our own data. Where we hold none, we say so rather than guess.

Facts last checked 25 Oct 2026. Britlens is independent: see our editorial policy.

What these lists are. A flag in our data means a past editor marked the place. It is not a certification. Menus change, so always ask the venue about your needs, and tell staff about any allergy.

Vegetarian and vegan, in general

Vegetarianism has become more widespread in the UK. It is rare to find a pub or restaurant with no vegetarian options, and most have a selection.1 Most chains and some independents have at least one vegan option, and it is wise to check whether chips are cooked in animal fat.1

Kosher

Our data holds no kosher flag, so we do not list kosher places. Ask your own community or a certifying body for current guidance, and tell us if you would like this added.

Allergies

The Food Standards Agency publishes advice for consumers with a food allergy or intolerance.2 Tell staff about allergies each time you order.

Questions people ask

Is it easy to find vegetarian food in Britain?

Mostly. It is rare to find a pub or restaurant with no vegetarian options, and most have a selection. If you eat fish-free vegetarian food, say so, because some people assume vegetarians eat fish.

What about vegan food?

Most chains and some independents have at least one vegan option. Specialist vegetarian restaurants and Indian, Chinese and Southeast Asian restaurants are often good places to look. Ask whether chips are cooked in animal fat.
