Welcome to the area

A market town on the Wye with Haddon Hall, Chatsworth nearby and the Monsal Trail

Bakewell is a market town on the River Wye in the Derbyshire Dales, with a Grade I listed medieval bridge, All Saints' Church and the Old House Museum, a 16th-century yeoman's house. Haddon Hall, a medieval manor house, stands on the Wye just south of the town. Bakewell Pudding is the local dish, and several shops in town claim to be its original home.

Chatsworth, the home of the Dukes of Devonshire, is on the Derwent a few miles north-east, with the estate village of Edensor and, beyond it, Baslow. West of Bakewell the Monsal Trail follows a former railway line of about 8.5 miles, and Monsal Head looks over Monsal Dale. Lathkill Dale and Magpie Mine are quieter walks south-west of town.
